SJM Construction was started by Steve Mall with the support of his wife Jill and his family in October of 1996. The first shop was located on Swanson Blvd and was 2500 square feet. Carpentry was always a passion for Steve as he worked in many other construction fields prior to starting his own business. His extensive knowledge of the construction process, combined with this passion has contributed to his success.
The majority of our employees have been with Steve from the beginning and all share in his desire to provide the highest quality of millwork and service possible.
Steve is very involved in all aspects of the business and works side by side with his employees. He is very generous and enjoys giving back to this community when possible. He has volunteered for many projects throughout the Des Moines area including Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Hubbell Homes “9 Homes in 9 Days”, and several projects with Habitat for Humanity.
In 2003, with business expanding, SJM moved to a new location in Grimes. With 8000 square feet and plenty of space for more advanced machinery the new location is a perfect fit. The addition of our CNC Machine has allowed us to work more efficiently and offer even more customized products in a timely manner. Steve has always strived to impress his clients and continues to exceed their expectations by providing honest service and unmatched quality.
